Sasdaya: Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities was initiated to provide an academic publication platform that can be used to discuss, to disseminate, to share, and to debate the social and humanities sciences in the context of Southeast Asia. The journal initiation was fully supported by the Post-Graduate Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in July 2016. The naming process of the journal took longer than was expected, experiencing debates among the involved parties.
At the end of the day, the involved parties agreed to to use the phrase "Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities", proposed by Rahayu Puji Haryanti as the tail of the journal title. Meanwhile, the main title remained three alternatives: Sasdaya, Mozaik Humaniora, dan Nusantara. Th three alternatives were brought to the Head of the Post-Graduate Program (Humanities Sciences) of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Bambang Purwanto. Sasdaya was finally chosen as the main title of the journal. Hence, the complete title is “Sasdaya: Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities”. The phrase of "Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities" represented the focus of the journal, starting in August, 2016. Prof. Bambang explained that Sasdaya is quite popular around 1960s-1970s because it had ever been a branch of social sciences. The existence of Sasdaya felt like reliving the memory of a glorious Sasdaya as a branch of social sciences in the past.
The following steps dealt with the administrative stuff like registering ISSN to LIPI, communicating with DSSDI UGM as the IT support. At the same time, the editors started to expose the existence of the Sasdaya: Gadjah Mada Journal of Humanities to collect articles from potential authors in the related fields.
