The Journal was established in June 1991 as the KELOLA Gadjah Mada University Business Review.

In 1999, the name of the journal changed into Gadjah Mada International Journal of Business, and it became fully in English.

In 2004, Gadjah Mada International Journal of Business is indexed by EBSCO.

In 2010, Gadjah Mada International Journal of Business is indexed by SCOPUS (Elsevier).

In 2013, Gadjah Mada International Journal of Business is indexed by Informit (RMIT Publishing).

In 2014, Gadjah Mada International Journal of Business is indexed by Norwegian Scientific Index (NSD) and EconLit.

In 2017, Gadjah Mada International Journal of Business has since incorporated Online Journal System in carrying out the publication pocess, including: submission, review process, and the final decision.

In 2017, Gadjah Mada International Journal of Business is now an open-access journal.
