IKAT: The Indonesian Journal of Southeast Asian Studies is an accredited academic journal issued by the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies(CESASS), Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia.
The title of the journal IKAT derived from an Indonesian word ‘Tenun Ikat’ which means ‘woven fabric’. The word signifies the connection within the region, as Southeast Asia is not merely connected geographically, but also culturally and socially.
Established in 2017, IKAT aims to provide a better understanding of Southeast Asia region academically through an in-depth analysis and a comparative case study with a wide range of academic disciplines in the humanities and social science, especially on economic welfare, socio-cultural and political transformations, and developments in information and communication technology. The journal is published in English with research articles, theoretical articles, conceptual ideas, and theoretical application.
IKAT is collaborating with Pacific Journalism Review, published by the Pacific Media Centre, School of Communication Studies, Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand for special joint edition on media, climate change and maritime disasters in July 2018.
In 2019, IKAT has been accredited and indexed in Sinta 3 (Science and Technology Index) by the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia.
In January 2020, IKAT accepted in the Directory Open Access Journal (DOAJ).
