Penalaran Probabilistik dan Keyakinan terhadap Gejala Paranormal Mahasiswa Psikologi
Abstract
Keyakinan terhadap gejala paranormal merupakan permasalahan pseudoscience atau ilmu pengetahuan lancung. Penelitian ini akan mengkaji keyakinan terhadap gejala paranormal para mahasiswa psikologi di kota Yogyakarta. Kognisi manusia khususnya kemampuan mahasiswa dalam melakukan penalaran probabilistik berhubungan dengan keyakinan terhadap gejala paranormal. Penelitian ini menjadikan penalaran probabilistik menjadi prediktor atas keyakinan mengenai gejala paranormal dari 105 mahasiswa peserta matakuliah Psikologi Umum di dua Universitas di kota Yogyakarta. Pengukuran kepercayaan terhadap gejala paranormal memakai skala adaptasi dari skala Tobacyk yang terdiri dari 26 item favorabel sedangkan kemampuan penalaran probabilistik diukur oleh sembilan (9) soal pilihan ganda dengan 4 pilihan jawaban yang tersedia. Analisis regresi menghasilkan nilai R = 0,265 (F = 7,802; p < 0,05) yang berarti penalaran probabilistik dapat menjadi prediktor keyakinan mengenai gejala paranormal. Tidak terdapat perbedaan penalaran probabilistik dan keyakinan terhadap gejala paranormal antara mahasiswa laki-laki dan perempuan.
