Buletin Psikologi was co-founded by three lecturers of the Faculty of Psychology Prof. Dr. Saifudin Azwar, M.A; the late Prof. Dicky Hastjarjo, Ph.D., and the late Sugiyanto, Ph.D. The Journal was first aimed to address a large amount of unpublished scientific non-empirical study articles produced by lecturers of the Faculty of Psychology. It was preceded by the PERSONA magazine around the 1980s that contained such type of articles from both lecturers and the general public.

The publication of the first issue in 1993 marked the milestone for Buletin Psikologi. The initial editorial team consisted of Prof. Bimo Walgito (chairman), the late of Prof. Amitya Kumara (secretary), Prof. Saifuddin Azwar, the late Sugiyanto, Ph.D., Prof. Johana Endang Prawitasari and the late Prof. T. Dicky Hastjarjo. Up until today, the Editorial team regularly rotates to accommodate the increasing demands of the publication.

In the early period, most of the manuscripts were written by lecturers from the Faculty to disseminate research findings, review theory, community services programs, and faculty programs. Since then, Buletin Psikologi has grown to publish scientific articles by alumni and other professionals in the field of Psychology. Buletin Psikologi publishes new articles twice a year, in June and December. It used to publish 6 (six) articles in an issue but starting from 2019, each issue contains 7 (seven) articles.

Current Editor-in-Chief of Buletin Psikologi is Dr. Ridwan Saptoto, M.A. Editorial board members composed of Indonesian and global experts in Psychology discipline, including Ahmad Saifuddin, M.Si., Dr.rer.pol. Bhina Patria, M.A., Cleoputri Yusainy, Ph.D., Associate Prof. Dr.Aqeel Khan, Giuseppina Marsico, Pradytia Putri Pertiwi, Ph.D., Prof. Rozainee Khairudin..

Buletin Psikologi has been registered with an ISSN 0854-7106 (print). On 23rd July 2016, following the decision made by Ministry of Higher Education No. 0005.25285858/JI.3/SK.ISSN/2016.08 Buletin Psikologi has been registered with ISSN 2528-5858 (online) starting for articles published in Volume 24 No. 2 2016. There was a mistake in the printing of 2015’s issues and some of the previous ones, where the ISSN (print) number was printed as 0854-7108 instead of 0854-7106.

Buletin Psikologi has been re-accredited and ranked as Sinta 2 Journal in 2020 according to Decision Letter (Surat Keputusan) by Minister of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency Number 85/M/KPT/2020 about Accreditation Rank of Scientific Journal Term 1 Year 2020. The accreditation is valid for five years.

Buletin Psikologi has been currently indexed by both national and international indexer institutions such as: DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journal - International), Google Scholar (International), Science and Technology Index (SINTA - National), Indonesian Publication Index (IPI - National), Indonesia One Search (National), and other citation databases of peer-reviewed scientific literature. Starting from December 2017.
