Abstract

Scaly face is an infestation by burrowing mites Knemidocoptes pilae. It is frequently encountered in birds, where the mite affects featherless tracts, most commonly the beak, and eyelids. Losses due to ectoparasite infestation in birds was decreased appetite, hair loss, hyperkeratosis, alopecia, itching and death. The purpose of writing a case study is provides information about the management of the scaly face in the white parrot (Cacatua alba) in the Madiun Umbul Square Conservation Park. East Java, Indonesia, on 20 July - 20 August 2020. Observations were directly, by assisting in handling and treatment in isolation cages.  A white parrot weighs 600 grams, from Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) showed hair loss and keratosis around the eyes and. Handling bird placement in isolation cages, skin scraping examination, found Knemidocoptes pilae, treatment with 0.02 ml of 1% ivermectin and 0.1 ml of Vetadryl® subcutaneously 3 times on 30 July, 10 and 17 August 2020. The results of treatment show healing such as appetite increases, keratosis disappears, and fine hairs grow around the eyes.
