Abstract

This research aims to describe differences in the level of student involvement in the learning process in eight scientific groups at Gadjah Mada University. The data used comes from a survey conducted within the framework of the Indonesian Survey of Student Learning Activities (ISSLA) as a preliminary survey. There are ten indicators in this survey which were adapted from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach to analyze differences in indicator values of student involvement in various fields of science. The research results show that the variation in the average value of student engagement indicators between science groups is not significant. Significant differences were only seen in two indicators, namely Quantitative Reasoning and Reflective and Integrative Learning. Students in the Engineering Science group showed a high average score in the Quantitative Reasoning indicator, this shows stronger quantitative analysis skills because the delivery of lecture material and assignments is more related to numerical data. Meanwhile, students in the Socio-humanities group have a higher average score in the Reflective and Integrative Learning indicators, this shows a focus on the relationship between theory and reality and relevant issues in society.
